The Never Never picnic area and picnic shelter have historical significance, reflecting important periods and events in the Dorrigo National Park history. Both the picnic area and picnic shelter also have aesthetic and social significance, being highly valued by NPWS and the local community. The precinct plan aims to upgrade and improve the visitor experience so that it can adapt to increased visitation in a sustainable manner. The Baliiga Precinct Plan incorporates existing infrastructure and heritage requirements, and provides design solutions for current and future usage, including upgrades to the picnic shelter and surrounds, a new toilet block, a new camping area with walk in tent sites and vehicle camping sites. The plan also incorporates a new overnight camping facility for the proposed Dorrigo Escarpment Great Walk.

The Nambucca V-Wall is the valley’s most recognised and iconic destination in the shire. It is located at the mouth of the Nambucca River where a most beautiful river system and the east coast ocean meet.

The master plan explores broad concepts for a revitalised urban recreational space where locals and visitors can meet, rest, reflect, and interact, with opportunities for exploration, play and social exchange.

Through integration of interpretive information with the natural and built landscape an improved sense of place is created, reflecting key environmental, historical and cultural meanings- the areas timber getting heritage, and indigenous connections.

The design provides playground-like landscaped platform areas, improved picnic and BBQ facilities, and a new stage structure overlooking open green space.

A suite of urban and interpretive/artwork elements aims to enhance the visitor experience and understanding of the location through storytelling and play.

Interpretive and wayfinding elements create an engaging, high quality and consistent visual language. Colours are inspired by the vibrant painted rock art along the V-wall, with typographic application of Gumbaynggirr words across the ground-plain and wall surfaces.

Crowdy Head 2018

The seaside village site is perched high on the Crowdy Head headland, facing north, with 270 degree ocean views.

The existing 2 storey brick dwelling was in poor condition, weathered from decades of extreme coastal weather.

The renovation project provided the opportinity to retain the bones of the existing building, and create a new contemoprary residence which responds to the natural environment, and reflects the local characterof the Crowdy Head fishing village.

Designed for a busy family of five, the Lynch renovation includes:

– conversion of the existing ground level into bedrooms, and a games room which opens onto a new pool
– a new bedroom/ bathroom area addition to the rear
– conversion of the second storey level into a new open plan living/ kitchen/ dining area, and main bedroom with ensuite
– a new double garage and shed at the rear of the site

All living spaces open onto deck areas, and look out to the ocean views. The new materials pallette is lightweight yet robust to withstand the extreme coastal elements.
